Earth Could Disappear!

There is a theory that believes that earth is disappearing and there is very little time left for aliens to contact us. One scientist named Frank Drake pointed out at a SETI workshop at Harvard University that television services are changing the way they send signals and these signals are being sent using technology that does not use radio waves. This may be good news also for SETI since efforts were always focused on finding radio waves and none have been found and this may be less worrisome for the earth. Scientists always used radio waves to try and find intelligent life in the universe. To us these were our strongest sign that there was life, since a TV antenna puts out one bubble of a radio wave which is only worth one megawatt and that radio wave now goes about 50 light years away from our solar system.

This is changing with television stations delivering programs through cable lines that emit no radio waves and there is no radio frequency either. Nothing leaks to space to spot of out. Even direct broadcasts that send programs through satellites only emit a very small amount, just 20 watts per each channel. These are very efficiently directed straight down to the user on earth’s surface, allowing a very slim chance of any intelligent life picking up on the radio wave. So, the chance of being detected has become very slim, that is if that is how intelligent life would be looking for us. This is how we have always calculated intelligent life on other worlds and the chances of life being there. Drake’s theory being that we should focus less on radio signals being sent because the longevity of the life maybe equal to the distance the signal came from and we should start focusing more on signals that are intentionally sent to us.

SETI strategies have begun a shift to looking for very direct signals being sent to us. They are looking even for optical beacons with different high powered lasers that are very deliberately aimed at any nearby stars and objects while optical communications were originally thought to be impractical and would not work, with a laser that is powerful enough finding signals this way can actually be much more efficient than looking for radio signals. They have gone so far as to use nuclear powered lasers as a possible tool find signals with due to the immense strength they provide. They could produce pulses that could outshine the sun by 10,000 a Harvard University physicist Paul Horowitz stated. He been searching for these pulses for some time. The telescope he designed will be used only for seeking out these signals from UFOs.

As new ways keep being created to look for signals are other life out there, we may one day find what we are looking for. It may not be as far off as once believed.
