Question by Flyinghorse: Aren’t we alow to ask questions about INTERNATIONAL gender problems in this section?
So many times I have heard about that this section is about Western countries (USA and UK primarily). There is criticism if some of us talk about other parts of the world (well some of us ARE from other countries).

So should we ALIENS leave this section, as it doesn’t go with Western thinking.

I have Yahoo to “all English languages”, meaning even India. So why it is expected just to talk about what happens in the first world??
I am not from India. I am from a country that has NO Yahoo questions and answers, so should I be fined?

You give me some names of people who are giving you grief, and I will make them disappear…

No, seriously, anyone who says only the first world is allowed to ask and answer here is smoking something funny. Don’t go away; we need a variety of voices here.

    i agree with push

I didn’t know this was a problem. I’d say, of the big contributors, even the worst trolls on GWS welcome people from anywhere.

I hope you can take a joke, because I doubt they’ll cut you any slack!

Ask and answer all you can. I seem to remember giving you a “Best Answer” but I think the question got deleted. (“chatting”)

Ignore them, they are ignorant and are looking for somone to blame all of their problems on. besides, any thought that we may have a point about oppression threatens their narrow veiwpoint that gender activism is invalid unless its for them. if we start discussing international issues, then they have to admit that they are wrong. i for one enjoy your questions even if i dont always answer them.

  4. TERA says:

Yes we’re allowed to ask questions about international gender problems, why not? I find it very interesting to learn about things that are going on in other parts of the world. I hope you keep asking intriguing questions and I hope you continue to get responses from many cultures!

  5. The Planet says:

I don’t see why you can’t ask international gender questions. I, for one, would find it interesting hearing about issues in other countries. Criticism is rampant here no matter what you do, so just ignore it and ask away.

  6. Tall Green Alien says:

I welcome responses from all of the world. I think it is very interesting hearing what people from other countries have to say. It is often quite illuminating.

I do not, however, appreciate people putting a lot of white space in their answers. It’s quite tacky and childish.

it will do the western world good to see international gender problems on this board

ps3 lover: you are rude with all your white spacing

well, remember that response – don’t be too open minded, your brains might fall out! :-)

there are many of us that are ‘global feminists’ — the more diverse the opinions, the better~

we need MORE talk of global issues and less trolling~

    Really?
Who has said this? Frankly, I think that’s ridiculous. Gender issues are gender issues, no matter where you are.

But sometimes it helps to know where the people who ask questions are from, to get a better idea of what they’re talking about.

Dear Sister, i think this is just a perception that we get , due to certain nasty answers given by certain anonymous persons on this forum. It is not about western world or eastern world but i have noticed that certain persons want that the westerners get a bad name and so though the answerer may actually be from ASIA and yet he would keep a profile to fool us into believing that he or she is a westerner and they talk such filth in the name of giving answers. The consequence is that we think it is an american or a european who is answering and thus the impatient among us retaliate with abusive questions and answers. My sister, you can make out this fact by going into the other questions asked by these pranksters and you would be surprised to note that they once in a while ask questions pertaining to problems concerning their native place and this is the point where you can make out that they are actually an asian in the guise of a westerner. My experience on this forum tells me that there a lot of intelligent, intellectual and humble weterners visiting this forum and they are also always ready to appreciate and respect our respective cultures.

There shouldn’t be any criticism if we talk about gender relations in other countries. That’s what feminists should be doing, anyway. But rarely does anyone here know or care about problems outside the Third World, since most of us live there.

  13. Bryan F says:

Sure but just be warned. Westerners rarely think outside of their boxes.

    Interesting question.
Residing in The UK we sometimes forget about other countries and their viewpoints.
Hopefully, and I can only speak for myself, this is not intentional.
Probably our present perspective has its roots in the days when what my country decided affected the rest of the world.
It has to be acknowledged that The USA is the most influential country globally; hence its decisions affect all countries of our world.
I agree though we should both America and The UK be more considerate to the feelings and thoughts of other countries.
I will attempt to think in a more International manner in future.
