After watching the traveling “reform” circus, doesn’t it seem like this is about VOTES, not reform?

Question by _______: After watching the traveling “reform” circus, doesn’t it seem like this is about VOTES, not reform?
When you look at the bill currently being proposed there is NO METHOD to verify citizenship. In other words: no way enforce the line that says illegals don’t get to partake in the program. NONE. When an amendment was proposed to close this little loophole, IT WAS VOTED DOWN BY DEMOCRATS. WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS??

Also, Obama gives lip service to tort reform (imagine that, lawyers not punishing themselves). He also gives lip service to those who wanted cheaper drugs (via imports from Canada etc.)…….because you can’t sell out to BIG PHARMA and reform the system too.

Do you get the sense that this “reform” is more about securing votes for 2012 (20-25 million illegals they want on a path to citizenship AND healthcare), as opposed to reforming the healthcare system?? (While creating HUGE profits for BIG PHARMA)

President Obama is clear: No illegal aliens will be covered by the proposed health care reforms. That is probably not technically a lie. But the president also knows that is not how it will work in practice. It is another application of “Don’t ask, Don’t tell.”

If it is absolutely true that illegal aliens are not to be covered, then why did Democrats in a House committee on July 30th vote against an amendment, offered by Rep. Nathan Deal, that would have required health care providers to use a verification program to prevent illegal aliens from receiving government-provided health care services? While all Republicans and five Democrats on the committee voted for it, 29 Democrats voted against it, killing the amendment.

The House version of the health care bill explicitly prohibits spending any federal money to help illegal immigrants get health care coverage. Illegal immigrants could buy private health insurance, as many do now, and they could also buy into a new government-run insurance plan if Congress creates one. But unlike legal residents, they wouldn’t get federal subsidies to help them. The bill’s exact language: “Nothing in this subtitle shall allow federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully in the United States.” Health care legislation in the Senate is also being crafted to exclude illegal immigrants from coverage.

However, Wilson is far from alone in thinking that the prohibition in the House bill doesn’t go far enough. For him and other Republicans, the problem is not what’s in the bill, it’s what the bill leaves out. There’s no provision for how the prohibition would be enforced, or any requirement for people to prove they are citizens or legal residents before getting health care benefits. In fact, Democrats on the Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means committees defeated Republican-offered amendments that would have required people to verify their legal status before getting care, with some Democrats saying such requirements would be unnecessarily burdensome for people legally entitled to coverage. Wilson cited the defeat of those two amendments Thursday when he discussed his outburst with reporters.

    August 12
This week, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) also urged Speaker Pelosi to ensure that illegal aliens are covered by the health care reform bill. (Roll Call, July 24, 2009). According to a CHC member, the organization’s leaders are not asking Speaker Pelosi to “specifically spell something out” in the bill, but instead to seek to ensure that the bill does not actually prohibit illegal aliens from receiving benefits. “We’re pushing to include everyone in the health care bill. Everyone,” the CHC member who asked not to be identified said. “Sometimes if you don’t say something, something happens.”

HEY! It’s still too early to shut down the circus!! Much, much more $ $ $ to be shoveled:

Critics of President Obama’s health-care overhaul are zeroing in on his senior adviser David Axelrod, whose former partners at a Chicago-based firm are the beneficiaries of huge ad buys — now at $ 24 million and counting — by White House allies in the reform fight.

And since the lobbyists who will NOT run Obama’s White House [snicker, snicker] have slipped Obama $ 150,000,000 to spend on his ego-soothing ads, there is lots more where that came from.

    “August 2009
We recently learned that President Obama has secretly made a sweetheart deal with Billy Tauzin, the former congressman turned chief lobbyist for the pharmaceutical industry. In return for … — and $ 150 million in supportive television ads Obama has apparently sworn to protect the industry from congressional efforts to, among other things, let the government use its bargaining power to lower prescription drug costs.

Don’t forget … your next prescription will include a “secret” tax for Obama’s ads. Enjoy!

Obama said if you are here illegally you can not be eligible for benefits. And to live and work in this country legally you must have a green card to show that you are here legally. This is a republican traveling circus, for the main reason to make the Democrats look bad, and to get votes for next years election. The only ones that are looking bad is themselves, and they are getting votes for the Democrats.

Your description of the traveling reform circus is apt. I think Mr. Wilson was incredibly brave to call the President out on his lying. I was floored to hear and read the MSM today saying a response like that was unprecedented. I’m old and even I can remember the Dems booing and shouting out insults to George Bush during the state of the union address.

    Bunch’a goofs!

  4. American says:

I heard one argue (Judge Andrew Napolitano) that it would be unconstitutional to implement health care and exclude anyone from it that is in the US. If this is true, then Obama, who taught constitutional law, would know this and know that it would eventually be challenged and illegals would get their health care.

After watching the traveling “reform” circus, doesn’t it seem like this is about VOTES, not reform? << BINGO!!!

I’d like to see a map of blue counties, overlaid by a map of where the most stimulus money has gone. I know here in Ga it’s very obvious what the goal is. Just follow the money….

The press will report everything about Willson’s comment

    Except that it is true.

Of course Obama knows he lies.
